Wordle Words: Search and Filter Five-Letter Guesses

Accepted guesses are not the same as likely answers

Wordle needs a broad dictionary so players can submit many real five-letter words. The editor can choose daily solutions from a narrower, changing pool. A word being accepted as a guess does not prove that it will become a future answer.

We intentionally do not label unplayed words as “future answers.” The official list and editorial sequence are not controlled by this site.

How to use the word filters

1. Put confirmed opening letters in Starts with, such as ST.
2. Put a fixed ending in Ends with, such as ING.
3. Add yellow or otherwise required letters to Contains. Their order does not matter here.
4. Add confirmed gray letters to Excludes.
5. For exact green positions and yellow-position exclusions, switch to the full Wordle solver.

The finder combines every active filter. For example, starts with S, contains A, and excludes RTE returns only words satisfying all three conditions.

Useful five-letter word patterns

Patterns help generate a shortlist, but large families require care. Common structures include:

If many words share the pattern, identify the letters that differ and test several of them at once. Do not burn rows guessing one branch after another when normal mode allows a more informative diagnostic word.

How letter frequency helps—and where it stops

Common letters are useful early because testing them tends to divide a large candidate set. Once the board reveals a structure, position and compatibility become more important than overall frequency. A rare letter that is the only plausible fit is more valuable than a common letter that contradicts the clues.

Count duplicates carefully. “Contains E” means at least one E; it does not require two. If your evidence requires repeated E, use the full solver, which tracks repeated required letters and position exclusions.

Word-list accuracy and automatic updates

The plugin ships with a working local snapshot, so the finder remains available if an external source is down. Once a week it checks the MIT-licensed community list maintained by Tab Atkins, validates that every entry is exactly five alphabetic letters, rejects suspiciously small or large downloads, and stores the verified result locally. Failed refreshes never erase the last working list.

That automation keeps the tool resilient, but it cannot certify the current private editorial dictionary. Treat the official game as the final authority on whether a guess is accepted.
